It's been a while
An unexpected break, a regained step, and a summer of exploration in Venice.
Dear readers,
The last time you heard from me, I hadn’t anticipated such a long break from Substack – six months!
I didn’t mean to stop writing, or cooking, or publishing. But as Italy transitioned into the warmer season, and walking got less and less painful, I felt a deep desire to just get outside.
Now, you might recall that at the beginning of the year, my chronic back pain had been in remission for a couple of months. I was cautious initially, but by Spring, it became clear that I’d moved beyond the cannot-walk-I-hate-my-life stage to something more manageable, more normal.
In other words, I was mobile again (and still am) 💃🏽.
Oh, Venice, you beautiful, endless source of discovery!
The call to explore was too strong to resist. With a regained spring in my step, Summer blessed us with weekends ripe for local adventures.
We went to the islands and beyond, visited coquettish Villas in the countryside, sought refuge from the crowds in silent palazzos, and sampled the best gelatos. Our travels took us through the olive-green waters of the lagoon and into the heart of sleepy, medieval towns inland. The coastal allure was irresistible, too, pulling us towards the fried delights that only the makeshifts kitchens of summer village fairs can produce.
Even after two decades in Venice, this city - the land, the lagoon - never ceases to amaze me. Its history, culture, and ever-evolving charm are simply mesmerising.
There's so much I want to share about these fun escapades (they make for fantastic slow travel ideas for anyone interested in visiting Venice sustainably), and I will write about them very soon.
For now, I just want to thank you for sticking with me and let you know that you’ll be seeing more of me moving forward.
…starting this Sunday with a family recipe that will make you want to whip up a Venetian aperitivo with gusto.
Until then,
Sinù xx

I'm excited to learn about the hidden places of wonder outside of Venice. I loved Venice so much when I was there last December but it wasn't long enough. Will be planning my return with your intel!
Wonderful to hear this tidbit from you. Looking forward to your renewed strength and writing.
